Helping Hand (Demo)

Music Intrinsic

Richard wrote this song entirely and brought it to practice - lyrics, vocal melody, the lot. It was a departure from the usual way we had worked on songs up to this point.

I never got to perform this live - so this recording came from one of our practice sessions and it felt good enough to include as a demo track when I released the EP online.

Lyrics

A helping hand’s always so far away
And yet, thought to be so near
A chance to shine is a chance to fail
It’s accepted around here

You focus on your good points
Ignore your limitations
But how can I improve
If I gloat in my perfection?
Great things lead to greater things
But it works the other way
You take your opportunities
Losing pride and dignity

I just need a helping hand

Pushed and pulled, constantly run down
In each and every way
All you have are empty goals
And nobody to blame but yourself

You focus on your good points
Ignore your limitations
But how can I improve
If I gloat in my perfection?
Great things lead to greater things
But it works the other way
You take your opportunities
Losing pride and dignity

They won’t let me speak my own words
I need somebody here to show me
How to stand on my two feet again
Where must I go to live my life
I just need a helping hand
I just need a helping hand
