Afterthought
This track was universally hated by the members of the band, and yet, to our surprise (and dismay) was often people’s favourite track.
I think the lyrics were a large reason why we hated it - by the final verse I think I had just given up trying to come up with anything with metaphor and the clumsy “you can find them on the internet, or even in a book” line was frequently mocked (and rightly so).
Lyrics
Like a thin black line, crawling across the page
Weaving and dipping, finding its way
The line meets the edge, and drops off the face
What was all the drawing for, shouldn’t we just trace?
No one knows, no one cares
I wanted to know, why do we dream in colours?
What is it that makes us, want to be others?
Why is it that sometimes, we laugh and then we cry?
These things in my mind that make me wonder why…
No one knows, no one cares
I need some information, but where can I find it?
With all these complications, but I don’t mind it…
And it’s changing my life and I’m finding my way
And it’s filling the void, but what can I say?
Maybe all of this was an afterthought
Neglected by your parents, taught nothing in your schools
We look to our friends, but they’re so unreliable
The answers are out there, just gotta know where to look
You can find them on the internet, or even in a book
No one knows, no one cares
I need some information, but where can I find it?
With all these complications, but I don’t mind it…
And it’s changing my life and I’m finding my way
And it’s filling the void, but what can I say?
Maybe all of this was an afterthought?
I need some information, but where can I find it?
With all these complications, but I don’t mind it…
And it’s changing my life and I’m finding my way
And it’s filling the void, but what can I say?
Maybe all of this was an afterthought?
Makes you wonder if they care!
