This was actually the first song we performed as a band, at an open mic night. We were last to go on and they had a deadline cut-off due to noise restrictions at the venue, so by the time we got on, we only had time for one song and this was it. It was well received.
I think there’s clear Van Halen influence coming in on this song from Richard’s piano work - to the point where several people thought it was a cover!
Lyrically, I think this was my poor attempt at trying to sound deep and failing (lyrics are not my strong point), but really about the idea that as we go through life, the decisions we make all manifest themselves in some way on our bodies in a way that we can’t hide - with physical scars only really being the most obvious way.
Lyrics
In the mirror, I look into his eyes
And all I see are memories
Of the past I left behind me
A condescending history
And nothing can hold him back
Even this mist that clouds my mind
Yeah nothing can hold him back
I’m just a walking time machine
Those scars that never seem to heal
Holding truth and understanding
Reminds me of those days
Every morning, every evening
And nothing can hold him back
Not even distance, change or time
Yeah nothing can hold him back
I’m just a walking time machine
And nothing can hold him back
Even this mist that clouds my mind
Yeah nothing can hold him back
I’m just a walking time machine
